Set goes from strength to strength
June 2010
Following the award of QC status for two members of chambers in 2010 and Andrew Axon's recent decision to join the set, Hailsham Chambers, one of the leading civil & commercial sets of barristers' chambers has been keeping Inner Temple's sign makers busy this year.
Today, calling on the calligraphers again - before the ink has even dried - Hailsham Chambers is pleased to announce that Bernard Livesey QC, one of the Bar's leading advocates, will become the latest tenant to join the set. A highly regarded barrister and Deputy High Court Judge, Bernard leaves Four New Square after 18 years.
When asked what prompted this surprise move Bernard said: "unfortunately there came a time when I did not see eye to eye with 4NS on a matter of principle and decided it would be best to continue my practice from another set of high-standing. Although after 18 years I am naturally very sad to be parting company from many close friends, I am delighted at the prospect of joining with many other friends and colleagues at Hailsham and look forward very much to the opportunity of continuing my career in the new and vibrant environment which Hailsham offers."
Commenting on the latest addition to Hailsham Chambers, Martin Spencer QC, Head of Chambers, said: "I was delighted to invite such an eminent, highly regarded practitioner to become a tenant. Bernard's reputation as a leading practitioner is indisputable and his particular areas of specialism will enhance the breadth of expertise available from Hailsham."
The move continues a year of rapid growth for Hailsham Chambers as demand for the advice and advocacy skills of its members continues to increase. At the start of 2010, the set invested heavily in marketing and IT. These investments are showing an early return as Hailsham grows at one of the fastest rates in its more than 100 year history.
Bernard Livesey was called to the Bar in 1969 and took silk in 1990. He has extensive experience of commercial litigation, construction, insurance and professional liability but the focus of his practice covers the professional liability of lawyers, accountants and valuers. He has been highly ranked in Legal Directories over many years.
Building on his impressive skills as an advocate, Bernard has sat since 1998 as a Deputy High Court Judge in the Chancery and Queen's Bench Divisions.
