Surveyors & valuers

Content

Hailsham’s barristers frequently act for or against surveyors and valuers where there has been an allegation of fraud and/or breach of duty. Members of the set are often instructed in lenders’ claims and also act on coverage disputes between surveyors, valuers and their insurers.

Counsel have significant experience of claims arising from the work of surveyors and valuers in a range of contexts, from alleged failures to detect specific defects, overvaluation, reporting errors and issues that arise in relation to contribution between solicitors and surveyors in such cases.

Members of Chambers have been involved in a number of significant cases involving surveyors. These have included: Nationwide BS v Dunlop Haywards [2010] 1 WLR 258, a lenders’ claim, resulting in the fraudulent surveyors being ordered to pay contribution of £4.5m.
