Andrew Hogan

Andrew is now a specialist in costs and litigation funding with nearly 30 years’ experience at the Bar, having previously undertaken a very wide range of work.

He has a national practice and advise on all aspects of costs work.

He appears in the County Court, High Court, and Court of Appeal. He is ranked Band 1 for Costs Litigation by Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500.

Andrew's practice includes, non-contentious work including drafting retainers and funding agreements, contentious costs work between the parties and solicitor-own client disputes.

Costs management

CCMCs, and preliminary advice on budgeting, strategy, and tactics.

Detailed assessment hearings

Appeals from decisions on detailed assessments and to argue points relevant to costs in substantive litigation.

Wasted costs and non-party costs

Andrew has advised and represented liability insurers, ATE insurers and trade unions and particularly credit hire companies.

Personal injury and clinical negligence costs

Andrew has significant experience of dealing with issues concerning Qualified One Way Cost Shifting (QOCS), having been instructed in five separate cases in the Court of Appeal to argue points of principle.

Commercial costs

Andrew deals with the aftermath of commercial cases, including consequential hearings, whether through advice or advocacy.

Collective proceedings

Andrew deals with costs issues concerning test cases, group actions proceeding under Group Litigation Orders (GLO) and collective or other class actions.

Solicitor/own client disputes

Andrew acts both for solicitors and their former clients, on solicitor/own client detailed assessments under the Solicitors Act 1974.
