Regulatory & Disciplinary

Regulatory & Disciplinary

Drawing on our significant strength in Medical Law and Professional Negligence, Hailsham Chambers offers expertise and advice and advocacy before a range of regulatory and disciplinary bodies.

In the healthcare sector, members of the Regulatory & Disciplinary Group advise NHS and professional bodies on regulatory issues, appear in the Administrative Court on applications for Judicial Review and often represent individuals before the MPTS, GDC and NMC.

The set’s specialist regulatory barristers also appear before the General Optical Council, the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service, the British Psychological Society and the General Pharmaceutical Council.

Members act for the Solicitors Regulatory Authority, as well as representing individuals before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal and the Bar Tribunal Service and appear before the disciplinary committees of the Association of Costs Lawyers and the Council of Licensed Conveyancers.

Members have experience acting before the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), the disciplinary board of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the disciplinary tribunals of medical and dental schools. Some have also sat as Legal Assessors for the General Social Care Council, the General Pharmaceutical Council and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

David Pittaway KC also sits as Chairman of the Bishop’s Disciplinary Tribunal for the Church of England and the National Association of Funeral Directors Disciplinary Committee. He has also advised various regulatory bodies on the content of their procedures, including the Bar Tribunal and Adjudication Service, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the National Association of Funeral Directors.
